2009 Malawi Mission ✛ July 14 to July 28

Homeward Bound

July 28 – Sister Gertrude Chapungu joined Dawn and the rest of the Love’s Harvest group for breakfast this morning, to discuss the continuing work of GAIA (the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance).  The Reformed Church along with Christ Church Bronxville supported GAIA for years, and Sister Gertrude was a guest of both parishes in 2008.  It was good to see her again and to catch up on all that GAIA is doing in Malawi.

We then packed up our bulging suitcases and checked out of the Kiboko Town Hotel. Fr. Chingoka and Marjorie Ngaunje came to see us off at the Lilongwe airport.  Having a priest and a former Member of Parliament eased our way immeasurably.  They remained with us until we boarded the plane and we were grateful for the V.I.P. treatment and for their company.

Our flight to Johannesburg was an easy one, and we walked around the O.R. Tambo airport for an hour or so before saying goodbye to Africa and settling in for the long flight home.

It will take us some time to process this trip.  It was everything we could have wished for, hoped for and prayed for…and more.  The work of Love’s Harvest and Christ Church Bronxville literally is bearing great fruit and the relationships we’ve begun are growing stronger and more meaningful.  On Friday, the team will meet to debrief and begin to lay out plans for projects and fundraising in 2010.

Thank you to all who have participated in Love’s Harvest and CCB projects this past year, and a special thank you to those who supported members of our team working in Malawi this summer:
